Orion UltraView 8x42
I have had these a couple years, and they are my primary finding binoculars for telescope observing. Recently, I thought I should get a pair of serious astronomy binoculars. Over the last few months I have tried Orion's 10x50 Scenix, Orion's 9x63 Mini Giants, Celestron's 8x56 Ultimas, and a pair of Dakota 12x50 binoculars. I returned all of them, and decided to stick with the 8x42 Ultra Views. The wide field view (8.2 degrees) and clarity allows the same objects to be seen as in more powerful binoculars, but with much easier hand holdability. A pleasure to use. Highly recommended.

Orion UltraView 8x42
My wife and I both need glasses to see, so binoculars that had decent eye relief was critical for any purchase. Additionally, we wanted binocs that had a decent FOV as well. The rated FOV is 8.2 degrees, of which nearly 7 degrees is sharp!

What really sold us is the current design of the eyecups. Instead of the flexible fold-down cups, these have screw-down cups, a half a turn on each cup extends or retracts them. This way you can dial in the relief you need for your observing situation and it's firm against your eyes. If Orion ever offers this eyecup design on one of their big binocs, then I'd buy them, too.

By allowing the eyecups to be firmly placed against your skull, it makes hand-holding these glasses very easy.

I've spotted many faint Messier objects with these glasses, including M81/M82, M101, and M51. I can see how doing a whole marathon with these could catch easily 75% of the targets, if not more.

The light weight of these binoculars makes them easy for hand-held viewing.
