Apogee WideScan Type II 30mm
Just received this ocular after much hunting to find one still on the shelf. Used it at two star parties and love it.. Have used it in a 10" f4.5 newt and a 6" f8 refractor both delivering tack sharp views with this eyepeice. Views of the Orion Nebula with this eyepiece are breathtaking.

I also have a Meade 2" 32SW which doesen't even come close to providing the same image quality and fov as the 30mm widescan. The widescan is a great buy If you can find one highly recomended.

Apogee WideScan Type II 30mm
I obtained this EP at a starparty from a fellow Amateur Astronomer who attempted to clean the EP with way too much lens cleaning fluid, he panicked when he saw all the fluid stains on the lens and turned around and ordered the Kokusai Kohki WS Type III from Japan. In turn he sold me this EP for 50!!! I took it home and PROPERLY cleaned it with DAMPENED Q-Tips, dampened with the special lens optical cleaning fluid from Orion, and the EP is absolutely IMMACULATE! Not a scratch on it!
Now, to get on with the review...the EP throws up some views that will BLOW YOU AWAY! I placed the entire belt of Orion into the FOV and still split the Trapezium into 3 of the 4 stars...at 480mm F/L with a TeleVue 76mm APO. The view is that tack sharp, it is amazing! There is a slight curvature at the last 10% of the FOV, but for the views not that far off from a TV Nagler 31mm Type 5 EP (the "pineapple" or "grenade"...and yes...I have reviewed BOTH of these EP's on the same night through my scope, and yes...I find the "pineapple" also has a slight curvature at the last 5% of its field), who is to complain for $200...LET ALONE $50!!
I placed Jupiter's disk and 4 pinpoint moons into the EP with the ENTIRE Beehive Cluster fitting into the FOV. With a fast scope like mine, the line at my scope was getting long for showing some dramatic wide field visual effects. This is my favorite EP for deep sky Milky Way scanning and just exites me every time I place it into my 2" focuser. If you could find one for $200...either brand new, or used without damage, GET IT...you will not be disappointed

Apogee WideScan Type II 30mm
this eyepiece has such a wide panaramic view that it makes you feel like you are there, looking thru a porthole from space. i know that sounds like a tv nagler advertisement but there is nothing else to compare it to. great eyepiece!! looks great & is a really good value.

Apogee WideScan Type II 30mm
A lot lighter than the Nagler 31mm and also more light gets through. For the price, an excellent value.

Apogee WideScan Type II 30mm
30mm Widescan Type III are here. I've be waiting 7 months for this eyepiece to arrive in the US. Made in Japan. Available at www.astrosystems.biz. This is an remarkable EP. High quality, great contrast and clarity. Last 20% of field is a little soft but not bad. Great EP for the money $225 + shipping.

Apogee WideScan Type II 30mm
Just rec'd the 30mm Widescan III from AstroSystems. This is a beautiful eyepiece. Excellent optics and high quality craftsmanship. This is my main eyepiece in my homemade f6 8in reflector. Highly recommended if you can't afford a 31mm Nagler T5 which is the ultimate wide field eyepiece. On my first night of viewing, M81 and M82 were visible in the same field of view with room to spare, very bright and clear, very good contrast, no need to use averted vision. Be prepared to rebalance your scope, at 17oz this is a substantial eyepiece. Very good customer service from AstroSystems.
Thanks, Alan
John K.

Apogee WideScan Type II 30mm
The 30mm Apogee WideScan II is the only eyepiece that I've
ever returned for a refund. I was very disappointed in its
poor edge performance (prominent astigmatism was present in
an f/6.5 Newtonian and to my amazement some was visible in
an f/15 classical Cassegrain) and extremely pronounced
lateral color. The WideScan II did have good light
throughput but badly needs a field stop in my opinion.

Apogee WideScan Type II 30mm
WOW!! wide views at there best. great in a f10 scope! they are no longer made & what a shame. wider afov than the uwa & naglers. if you can find one dont hesitate to buy it. they were selling for about $ 210.00 shipped when they were in production. dont be suprised to pay twice that in a year or so.
