Entry: Astronomy:Equipment Reviews:Eyepiece Reviews:Harry Siebert Optics Ultra 11mm, 1.25 inch

I tested this eyepiece last weekend in a 14" f/5 Dob with excellent optics (pegasus).

Initial tests showed a sharp image in the center of the eyepiece, with the image deteriorating in the outer 30% of the field.

Like every other Siebert eyepiece I have tried, this one suffers greatly from lack of contrast and poor transmission. In direct comparison with a 10.5mm Pentax XL, the Pentax showed faint stars which would dissapear in the Siebert, and of course exhibited much better contrast, as well as sharpness across the entire field.

Great scope at a great price. Mine has excellent optics. Focuser is great, and scope is very well built.

This scope is a great value.

Entry: Astronomy:Equipment Reviews:Telescope Reviews:Televue Pronto

Good optics and construction, typical Tele-Vue quality.

My only complaint is that it is a bit overpriced for what basically amounts to a simple Achromat. I puchased a William Optics Megrez 80 II for roughly the same price, and it is a 3-element APO, and is every bit as quality built as the Pronto. I think Televue should revisit the pricing on these scopes.

Other than the price, there is not much to complain about - this is one of the best achromats I have ever used.

I'm giving this scope a solid "10". It is so well-made, and has such excellent optics. There is nothing close to this for even more money.

After buying this, I quickly sold my Televue Pronto!

I love the Megrez II!

Mine wouldn't even come to focus. I had to pull all the eyepieces out of the focuser to get focus. I called Hardin, and they said that they had accidentally ground the mirrors to the wrong focal length!

That is a pretty serious mistake, in my opinion, and it shows how little quality control there is on these scopes, since they sent them out without even checking them. I sent mine back for a refund, and will never order a scope from them again. Thank goodness they took it back!
