Subject: 31mm Nagler By: spacedoutbob Date: 05/24/2005 05:37:44 am PST I have had my 31mm Nagler for more than 4 years now, I still can't believe just how great this eyepiece is. Looking at M97 and M108 in my 17.5" f5 Dob. It makes me feel like I am there. For all that matter, Anything I look at makes me feel like I am there. Save your nickels and dimes, The only regret I have about it is, That I didn't purchase one sooner that I did. Like the old Alka-Seltzer commercial said - Try it You'll Like It! Subject: 31mm Nagler By: MarkR Date: 09/28/2006 02:18:15 pm PST There is no question that this eyepiece has greater sharpness over the entire field of view more than any other wide angle 80 plus degree eyepiece in it's focal length range. However, it comes at a tiny loss of sharpness at the centerfield position. My 32mm Edmund Erfle is clearly sharper at the central part of the field. It is probably a good tradeoff to get the whole field sharpness that the 31 Nagler does. That is what the goal of the designer seems to be. I hate to rain on anyone's parade, but the purpose of these reviews is to be objective and tell it like it is. I made this comparison in an 8" f10 SCT. I do not know if the results would be the same in a different f ratio scope. Buyer beware, you will have to give up something to get those sharper edges and it appears to be sharpness at centerfield.
