The OTA is the same as the LX200 better than my Nexstar8. The Mount is much more superior to the Nexstar. I traded my Nexstar8 in on this LX90. The Nexstar couldn't track more than a few minutes where as the LX90 I have tracked objects for 30 minutes with no adjustment. Autostar can be software upgraded and customized not the Nexstar.

Question about weight:

Good information about LX-90s here. But what does an LX-90 weight attached to the tripod? Is it light enough to bring to the backyard or walk .25 miles with the whole thing together on the tripod or is that not recommended.

Thanks for your time.

You have to order a bar that bolts to the bottom of the OTA and attach one or more of the weights that comes with the set. These weights slide up and down to the position needed to balance the scope. Most of the weights are needed to balance the OTA if you piggy back another scope on top while in the polar mounted mode. If you alt/az mount your scope (by far the most easy and comfotable method to use) the heavy weight will handle most of the balance act even with meades dew shield. Remember you have to polar mount the scope for most astrophotography and the wedge adaptor adds considerable weight to the tripod. As far as hauling the scope the LX-90 is fairly light. I purchased a glacier back pack to pack it in but the tripod is a seperate heavy and difficult piece to carry any distance. I'm using shoulder straps and I can take it some distance, but 1/4 mile? You better have a friend. Good luck
