Lumicon UHC
I bought it used so it was cheeper, otherwise it (to me) is a lot. But it really helps on the Orion Nebula and some by the Sag. teapot

My all-time favorite filter for my 18" Obsession Dob. Gives a big boost to DSOs without the contrast blowout of the Lumicon O-III.

If you are looking for a nebula filter the Lumicon UHC is the one I would recommend, I have used it on a 102mm refractor, 8"dob and also my 15" dob and it was very useful in each one. I would recommend this over the O-lll because the contrast tends to be so extreme with the Olll.

This may be the best narrowband nebula filter available today. It really pops the contrast for emission and planetary nebulae. Compared to the Astronomik UHC, much better contrast, making the effect of the Astronomik seem downright anemic.

I couldn't believe what a difference this filter made. Even from a dark-sky site, and with a 16" Dobsonian, the difference when viewing the Veil was astonishing. It was easily visible without the filter, but with it, the Veil looked just like photographic images, with fine detail easily visible.

I bought mine second-hand but would certainly buy one new if I had to. Not exactly cheap but if DSOs are your target then I think one of these is a great investment.

I myself find the image noticeably dimmer, but the planetary nebula themselves appear a bit brighter. I cannot make out any better detail, but the nebula does have a slightly better contrast. I prefer to keep the brighter image myself, so this rarely is used. When hunt for really faint PN, I do pull it out and move it over the eyepiece lens without mounting it, just to see if it will "pop" out better.

I have also used this on planets, and helps a bit too.
