Meade Ultra Wide Angle 8.8mm
With slightly more eye relief I would give this eyepiece a score of 10. Otherwise it's great.

I compared this against a Nagler 9mm for resolution and sharpness. No difference in my 8" LX200; slight edge to the Nagler in my friend's 18" Dob. Large and heavy, but superb wide-field high power views - my favorite HP eyepiece.

I love this eyepiece. On solar viewing, it's incredibly sharp showing faculae divisions. On plantary, I haven't used better. Got rid of a Nagler 9mm after getting this one. I have however heard of quality control problems on Todd Gross's page. He said that he had vignetting on one side. Mine is wonderful. Bulky but not a big deal.

Meade Ultra Wide Angle 8.8mm
Great eyepiece, My only complaint on this eyepiece is that it for some reason won't fit in my 1.25" adaptor. On using the 2" skirt, it fits perfectly. Works well on planetary viewing and the moon. I would still reccomend it to anyone.

Meade Ultra Wide Angle 8.8mm
Outstanding!!! Just saw more than four of Jupiters satelites, six total, all in the same field of view. Saturns ring division was as crisp and clear as I've ever seen it. M42 looked as good as it does in most books.(minus the color of course)I can't even describe the incredible detail we saw on the moon. the Maria actually had a 3D depth to it. It may sound corny, but the moon through this eyepiece must look as it does from the window of an orbiting space craft.I was using an 8" SCT, I dont know how great this is in other scopes, but if you own one of these, do yourself a favor, and spend the money for this eyepiece. Bright, and clear to the edge. Great job Meade!

Excellent sharpness to the edge. Performs superbly on both planetary and deep space objects. The Great Nebula in Orion was a majestic ghost. Nice panoramic view of Saturn and (three?) moons.

Meade Ultra Wide Angle 8.8mm
Views are crisp and clear to the edge. Very little, if any, "kidney beaning". It does appear to be a difficult eyepiece for beginners to use I've noticed. Works great in combo with the Meade 140 Apo Barlow!

Traded a 10mm Radian for this and love it. Much better image then the Radian and a wider field as well. Can't go wrong with this superior Meade EP.

Meade Ultra Wide Angle 8.8mm
I had both Nagler 9mm Type 1 (Now replaced with the Type 6!)and Meade 8.8 UWA a month back..using with my 150 f8 refractor. I found that I had to sell one!! Both are great EP's the Meade has slightly less eye relieve than the Nagler but is slightly less prone to 'kidney Beaning'. Eye position is more critical with the Nagler. This is something that you get used to..and EP's like these are a personal thing. Both have great fields of view and have 'good' contrast.I found that sharpness with both EP's much the same..which is exellent!
In the end I kept the Nagler..its lighter and I found the full field of view easier to use . But if either of these EPs comes your way at the right price..you won't go wrong..I will give the Nagler 8.5/10, the Meade 8/10.

To the above ad..state the scope you are using. Make you opinion fairly!!
Statements like yours don't make any sense on these sites.

Meade Ultra Wide Angle 8.8mm
I count myself extremely lucky to have obtained a used one at a bargain price!
This is currently my medium-high power e/p in an Antares Skywatcher 8" f/5 Dob,
where it feels much more at home in the 2" adapter than in the 1.25".

In this scope, it gives sharp stars almost to the edge; I could detect no
coma or astigmatism. The outer 15% of the field, normally used mostly for
providing some context to the target of interest, have considerable lateral
color (violet inside, red outside) - almost enough for visual spectroscopy
of bright stars ;) - but this is not distracting in normal use. (Which, in
this short f.l. scope, is not planetary use, although power and contrast are
sufficient to show surface markings on Mars.)

No glare or ghosting. Comfortable eye relief, no blackouts even when I peek
around the corner to reach the outer field edge. Fitted with a UHC filter, it
turns a target like M57 into an absolute stunner.

Absolutely the best buy I found on that occasion!

Meade Ultra Wide Angle 8.8mm
This is my second favorite eyepiece because it produces too much power for the seeing too often in my 2032mm FL scope. But:
a.It's sharp
b. It's color free
c. It exhibits no pin-cushion or barrel distortion
d. The eye relief is perfect for non-eyeglass wearers (which includes yours truly)
e. It's relatively light for such a wide field eyepiece
f. It's easier to use than the comparable Nagler (because it has less kidney-bean effect, and is less sensitive to head placement.
g. It's often available for more of a discount than the Nagler 9.
You can't go wrong with this one.

Forget the Nagler 9. This is the best ep in its f.l. you can own.

Meade Ultra Wide Angle 8.8mm
My most used eyepiece in my Vixen VX120 refractor. I have the old style without the rubber ring and eye guard. Globulars are simply amazing. Contrast and sharpness are exellent across the entire field of view. Highly recommended and now I am looking for a 14mm UWA.

Great planetary, lunar, and globular eyepiece. I have done side by side comparisons to the 9mm Nagler and found no reason not to buy this eyepiece.
