Meade Super Plossl 26mm
Excellent sharpness but impossible for me to use with glasses on
even with the eyecap folded down I can not see to the edge of the field which
is very important to me. I like to see a razer sharp edge of field, that's a
personel quirk of mine. I don't see why Meade chose to recess the eye lens
about 1 cm below the eyepiece barrel, that just shortens the eye-relief by 1 cm.

Very nice eyepiece to receive with a inexpensive scope. Usually with a scope you receive an eyepiece that is barely adequate, this EP is more that adequate.

Meade Super Plossl 26mm
This 26 is as good as any 25mm out there. I've compared quite a few side by side with the Meade and the contrast, sharpness, and field of view are second to none. Sharp to the field stop in my 9.25 and Tak FS128. You could do a tad better with others, but at 3 or 4 times the price. Mine also developed a rattle and I fixed it by simply tightening the retaining ring, in the barrel. Why do people always poo-poo a product because one of them has a minor flaw. This eyepiece in NO way desearves a 6. You should rate them fairly or not at all. What idiot gave it a 6 based on a rattle? By the way, Meades are STILL made in Japan. TV's are made in TAIWAN!

I got the feeling televue describes as "walk in space" from this 26mm Meade. I love Televue optics, but this one is so very crisp and clean, that I wouldn't trade it for a Nagler of the same Mag. It came with the LX200. I'll never get rid of it. You don't have to spend 3 figures to get quality.

Very bright razor sharp views clear to the edge. If I could only have one eyepiece this would be it.

Meade Super Plossl 26mm
The 26mm Super Plossel that came with my LX90 is made in China. I have a 10yr old 26mm Super Plossel and it was made in Japan. Physically, they are different. And think I heard that the one from Japan has more elements than the newer one.

Seems Meade should change the model number if it's no longer the same eyepiece.

This is an excellent EP if you get one of the JAPAN models. I purchased a new one several weeks ago and when I rcvd it the edge of the optics were giving reflections, it had a slight rattle, and the glue had melted around the optics to give a rough appearance around the view. It was a CHINA version. I sent it back with an requested a JAPAN version as the replacement. Seems that the JAPAN versions are like gold and I was awarded one as a replacement. It is excellent! Looks and feels better made even though it has the appearance of the same materials. I give the JAPAN version a "9+" and the CHINA version a "3"

I've tried a few of the Meade eyepieces, but this one (the original) is the only one I've kept. It has always delivered an extremely sharp, contrasty image, and displays no false color at all in my Takahashi 4" refractor. A few of it's more expensive siblings have turned out to be real lemons, but I've no complaints at all with this one. In fact, in this magnification range, I prefer the image to that of the TeleVue 22mm Nagler, even though the fov is much narrower. I just wish that the 13.8mm SW,32mm SW & 56mm SP could have been in the same league. Supplied as standard with most Meade scopes, it's an excellent choice.

Meade Super Plossl 26mm
Great e.p. I rate it up there with the best, providing you get the Japanese version. The China version looks different and the FOV is narrower. I have the Japanese version, fortunately. It gives tack sharp images to the edge and only a little false color. The only problem with it is the excessibly recessed eyelens, making it impossible to use with eyeglasses, but I'm still going to rate it a 10.

Despite getting more expensive eyepieces, such as the famed Nagler, I always find myself reaching in my eyepiece case and pulling out this great eyepiece. It offers good brightness, clear views, and is quite clear across the entire field. All this, and it cost much less then a Nagler, Pentax, or Radian. I actually prefer it over a Nagler. As an added bonus, it comes with many Meade scopes. I like it on my 16" f/4.5 dob and my 10" f/10 LX200. Highly recommended for any scope.

Meade Super Plossl 26mm
The true workhorse. Near perfect eye relief for those not needing glasses (eye not jammed into the glass or so far away as to have to hold your head in just the right spot). Bright and sharp to the edge. Resonable FOV and mag with most focal lengths. Overall pleasing views.

A fine eyepiece. Has good clarity. Brightness is good. Not a good eyepiece for digital astrophotography since it is recessed too far.

Meade Super Plossl 26mm
I just got a NOS Japanese example, and it's a treat! Bright as an ortho, sharp right across at f/4.5, beatifully coated, and solid. I don't see any color or ghosting at all. The field is at least as wide as advertised; it's wider than many eyepieces that claim more. The view is easy to hold. It wants a little more concentration than some to set a filter straight on the thread; other than that I can't fault it. If there's a better, friendlier eyepiece at this focal length, I've never used it.

Meade Super Plossl 26mm
I've heard a lot of the Japanese vs Taiwanese versions of this eyepiece. (ie. Japanese = good, while Taiwanese = bad) The rumor is, there was one run from the Japanese factory which occured years ago, while there are currently multiple Taiwanese factories making them. Each factory has a slightly different build quality and optical quality it seems. Kind of like a crap shoot which you'll wind up with it seems.

I have a matched pair of one of the Taiwanese versions. My examples are fantastic. The glass has both green and blue coatings on them. And in terms of absolute performance I'd have to rate them as 9. Extremely sharp, Excellent contrast and sharp to the edge. The image quality is asthetically the best from my collection of EP's. Although they don't seem to have the absolute highest light throughput (difficult to quantify this), there is less ghosting on super bright images as a result. (thats the tradeoff I guess). I always enjoy looking through these EP's. I can't imagine the Japanese versions being any better then the ones I have. I guess I was lucky to get mine from one of the "good" factories.

On my 8 inch F10 LX50 the sharpness and contrast in the center is excellent. Fall off is very apparent however over approximately the outer 20% of the field.
I do not notice this with my 8 mm televue radian or my 12.5 mm university optics ortho.

Overall acceptable but not in tier 1. Judging by the number of excellent ratings given to this occular by other observers, I have to believe that my particular sample is not amongst the best.

Meade Super Plossl 26mm
Everytime I switch to this eyepiece I wonder why I bother with anything else. Bright with good contrast, sharp to the edge, and comfortable to use it stands head & shoulders above most everything else in my small collection. This includes a 20mm TV plossl, a 22mm Panoptic (sharp, but not as bright or comfortable), a 32mm Sirius plossl (bright & comfortable but less sharp with poorer contrast) and a couple of shorter focal length (10 & 15mm) Orion Ultrascopics. Came with my ETX125 and performs well in that and a 4" APO refractor. IMHO plossl's seem to 'hit their stride' in the 20mm to 32mm focal length range & this one is the best I've seen...though I once owned a 26mm Sirius plossl that came close.

I had the chance to look through Japanese and Chinese versions. I hate to say this but buying Jap version does not guarantee you will get a good Eyepiece. There seems to be both good and bad versions no matter where it was made. You MUST look through this e.p before purchase.DO NOT pay premium price for Japanes version (unless you check it first)

I paid $60 for a pair when I purchased my binoviewer. The only thing I don't like about them is the eyelens is deep in the barrel so you have to push your eye's into them when used with a binoviewer to see the full field.

Meade Super Plossl 26mm
A really good EP in this focal range. Works much better than standard Plössl (Meade Series 3000, Celestron Plössl, chinese Plössl and several others) in fast focal ratios, f/6 or f/5, with noticeably better off axis performance. Very good transmission, contrast and colour rendition, with better than average geometrical correction (for a Plössl). It also works very well on slow focal ratios. The only defect, it's only a Plössl with 50º field and a bit pincushion, nothing really serious.
Tested in f/5 refractor, f/5, f/6 and f/8 newtonians and f/10 SCTs.
