Panasonic DVD-L50
This is my 2nd DVD player to go with my Sony 3000. On screen menus are a pain with the joystick. BUT, it has a nice functional 5" screen. Wide screen at that. Looked at the Panasonic DVD P10 and Sony PBD V30, decided on the DVD L50. Would buy it again for the sake of portability. I would not use it as my only DVD player. Still love my SONY 3000...plays everything without a hitch. But as a second unit it good enough.

Audio/video quality is SUPER. Much better than my Toshiba home unit. DTS works great and the ZOOM mode is a VAST improvement over the L10. Battery life is a legit 2:30-3:30 hours depending on conditions. Audio/video in is great if you need to use it as monitor. It also plays CDRs and VCDs without a hitch. My only complaint/concern is that the unit gets VERY hot, not warm, HOT. Like 120 degrees after and hour of use or so. I am assured by Panasonic that this is "normal" but...uhh...it can't be good but so far no harm has been done.

My L50 with a mfg date of June 1999 has a serious overheating problem. It continues to get worse. At this time (7/2001) it cannot play for more than about 40 minutes before it begins acting up (pausing, skipping, losing large chunks of pixels, etc.)

Very nice portable DVD player. Great performance, exept MAYBE for some Extreme DVD's. The Extreme DVD's are the the ones that are recorded in a high bit rate.
The only movie in my library of around 57 DVD's is only one movie, which is Terminator 2, it is a Extreme DVD, and is recorded in a high bit rate, it won't play at all. I don't know about other Extreme DVD movies, because T2 is the only one I have. As for the sound of the Panasonic DVD-L50, it is pretty good, it can get a little squalky if the volume is turned up too high. The picture is great.
