Televue Pronto
In it's size range, certainly hard to beat. Beats the socks of many larger scopes (with larger prices).

Good for widefields but noticeable color on the planets. Despite the fact that it is an ED, and therefore one should expect some false color, the scope is way over priced. Would give it a higher rating if it cost about $500.

Great little travel scope. Telepod in suitcase, Pronto in overhead bin. I use my TV 101 at home and my Pronto away from home (but, on rare occasions I will take the Pronto out into the backyard for a quick peek). This is a great beginner's scope too. jeffz@voyager.net

Televue Pronto
Not a better value in its price range! Yes, there is a tad bit of color around bright objects, but this is NOT an APO, nor does TeleVue advertise it as such.

For a portable, "run out in the yard and look" type scope, the Pronto is one of the better values out there.

Excellent for solar viewing and the Coronado filters are readily available. Would happily buy one again!

Nice fit and finish but price is a bit steep for a 70mm semi-apo.

Televue Pronto
Just picked up one of these with the TelePod for $1000 from an astromart.com deal. It is everything I expected and hoped for in a small travel scope. I was out using it with less than a 30 second set-up. Very nice optics and impressive for 70mm.

The TelePod is not at it's best under magnification with the center post extended. Using a Barlowed 6mm Vixen Lanthanum provided nice, somewhat dim views of Jupiter and Saturn. The seeing that night was poor but the momentary glimpses were quite nice. However, if you use it with a TelePod on high power, plan to sit down and keep that center post down! Very jiggly!

All in all though, a wonderful package. The best view that night was using a 2" TV diagonal and the 20mm TV Plossl on the Orion Nebula. Really impressive for such a small scope.

BTW, I bought this as a quick peek and travel scope. If you can rationalize the tab for one of these, buy it. Otherwise, a short tube 80mm (like the Celestron FS 80 WA) will do nearly as well for well under $300.

TeleVue is a quality outfit and it's a pleasure to finally own one of their scopes. I give this a 9 because nothing is perfect (but I'd buy another in a heartbeat if this one were lost!).

I OWN A TELEVUE PRONTO WHICH I HAVE HAD FOR THREE YEARS NOW. IT HAS VERY SHARP
FLAT FIELD OPTICS ALONG WITH THE ABILITY TO USE TWO INCH EYEPIECES MAKE THIS
TELESCOPE OUTSTANDING. IT PROVIDES GREAT PLANETARY VIEWS AND REASONABLE PERFORMANCE ON DEEP SKY OBJECTS FROM A DARK SKY LOCATION. IT MAY APPEAR AT FIRST
TO BE OVERCONSTRUCTED AND A DEFINITE SIGN THAT IT IS BUILT TO LAST, HEIRLOOM
QUALITY.

This is the perfect first telescope. It is amazing for its size. It sets up in seconds and delivers outstanding views. I have since purchased a 101, but I kept my Pronto. It is the ultimate in portability, convenience, and performance.

Televue Pronto
The perfect scope! The Pronto on a Tele-Pod with a couple good eyepieces
and astronomy is really fun! Nothing heavy to lug around, no complicated
setup to go thru, you can move from the back yard to the front, or either
side of that big tree and go right back to enjoying the sky! I love it!

Why 8 and not more?
- difficult to balance using TV EPs
- I can't use other finders other then TVs (maybe Pronto IS a finder;-)
But I love it!

Televue Pronto
This is an exellent, rugged and versitile package for both terrestrial and astronomical use. I've had mine for five years now- I purchased it to replace an ETX I was very disappointed with- and I've used it as a spotting scope, birdwatchng scope, portable astro scope, general nature watching scope and 480mm telephoto.

Color correction isn't perfect, but contrast is exceptional and I've used it at over 200x without image breakup or annoying secondary color. It's my favorite travel scope, and goes with me any time there's a chance of viewing under a dark sky.

I have an 8" SCT and the Pronto. I love both and wouldn't talk bad about either. Your best scope is the one you use the most...and for me, the Pronto is it. Just like everyone else on this page, I like how easy it is to setup. I use a TV Telepod head and Bogen Tripod, the whole setup is maybe 11-13 lbs... one hander out to the back yard. Great scope, medium price, outstanding value. Buy if you can, and NEVER EVER sell...unless you get a TV 85 :)

Televue Pronto
Very pleased with the superly crisp star images and the mechanical/visual qualities of this scope. Doubt I'll ever sell it. Bought it mainly as a travel scope, but with a 3x TV Barlow and various TV Plossls on a Vixen GP mount I find I use it more than my C8. Only a 9 because I can only imagine what more aperture would do.

Televue Pronto
The Pronto is better than I hoped it would be. How often does any product live up to the promise of advertising copy? Pronto's performance, construction and design, all exceed the hype. I could rave about the way this superb 70mm wide-field telescope takes magnification or the incredible solid feel that quality components and flawless design give this precision instrument but I still might not manage to describe the Pronto as well as others already have.

Robert Frost wrote of a $600 telescope in 1923 that could be a Pronto. Read his complete poem to discover why, for some of us, cost doesn't matter with certain telescopes.

From The Star-Splitter-

It's a star-splitter if there ever was one
And ought to do some good if splitting stars
'Sa thing to be compared with splitting wood.

Help please. Would you recommend the Pronto or FS 60 or the new Televue 76? Thanks.
