Whenever the seeing condition is not good, the moon makes a fine object to see. Watching the shadows of the craters and villes change every night is fascinating. It is not the most exciting thing to see with a telescope since everyone can see it with their eyes but the intricate details make it a rich object to study. Plus, if you are tired or frustrated in finding deep space objects, the moon is always easy to find and offer a rich resource (then again, maybe it's the brightness of the moon that makes you can't find the deep space object).

Yes yes. It's the scurge of deep sky observers. It's
also full of enough detail to use up a whole
life time observing.

Sadly I dont have enough faith in humanity anymore to even think we will colonize another planet or even our own moon.

It was in 1492 that America was discovered. Not until 1609 was Jamestown founded. Given that Sputnik went up in 1957 I will count anything done before 2074 as being ahead of schedule and not until July 20, 2086 will I count us as being behind schedule (Though of course I still hope to see us way ahead of schedule so that we can see it in our lifetimes).
Ultimately I have faith that it is going to happen. Whether or not there is intelligent life in Washington D.C. there is certainly intelligent life in Tokyo, Bonn, Moscow and Beijing. With or without us it shall most certainly happen. - Small Pink Mouse

Comments: Based in Milwaukee. They've both done and are doing some good work in figuring out how a Lunar colony might be made viable.

2. Space Frontier Foundation..............www.space-frontier.org

comments: NSS is a general "Let's colonize space!" organization that lobbys on behalf of NASA as well as providing an umbrella for anyone pushing colonization in any form while the Space Frontier Foundation is very vehement about believing that Free Enterprise & private initiative is the way to go.
