TeleVue Nagler 4.8mm
Nice on planets in 4" F/6 scope - very
sharp; good contrast. Eye relief poor;
very hard to see entire field.

TeleVue Nagler 4.8mm
I am constantly fighting with myself on whether I should sell this eyepiece or not. The eyerelief is quite small, and I have to bury the thing in my eyeball to enjoy the entire field of view. This of course leads to eyelash oil constantly building up on the (too small) eyelens. Other than the ergonomic issues with the eyepiece, it is quite good. The views are sharp (and wide if you put your eyeball on top of the thing.) It has none of the kidney bean distortion apparent in some of the other members of the Nagler line.

TeleVue Nagler 4.8mm
I use the 4.8mm nagler in my etx and meade 10" dob. On the etx images aren't very bright, but sharpness and contrast are pretty good. It does the best job on the moon, it really gets you up close and personal with the craters. Not super clear, but at the same time, it will make you say wow!!. I showed the moon to some neibors when using it on the moon with the etx, and they were blown away by it. Eye relief is horrable with eyepiece. It works better with the 10" dob, images are quite alot brighter. While this is a pretty good eyepiece, the 7mm nagler is far superior, in my opinion.

TeleVue Nagler 4.8mm
The short eye relief on this one bothers me; I guess it is the 82* field that makes it more uncomfortable than my 5mm Pentax smc ortho. Images are pretty sharp in my Quantum 4(f/15)

TeleVue Nagler 4.8mm
Very sharp and has a huge field for such a short focal length eyepiece. I got some excellent views of the comet Shoemaker-Levy impacts on Jupiter with it. However, it has a narrow eye lens so you can't see the whole field (or even most of it)without putting your eye up so close that it frequently makes contact and smears the lens. This is an eyepiece that you have to clean a lot. I eventually replaced it with a 5mm Radian.

TeleVue Nagler 4.8mm
Except for the short eye-relief (not a big deal to me),
which is typical for most eyepieces in this focal length,
this eyepiece has transformed my homemade 5.5" f/6
Newtonian. Clear, bright, contrasty images across almost
the entire field, and just the right magnification for
lunar and planetary for my system. I can scan nearly the
entire lunar terminator without moving the telescope in
declination. An excellent eyepiece for my needs, and not
as expensive as I thought it might be.

TeleVue Nagler 4.8mm
Wide, sharp field. Moderate distortion. Eye relief way too short for comfort. There are now lots of better choices.

TeleVue Nagler 4.8mm
Excellent! The wide field is incredible.Stars are pin-sharp,even at the edges.Close doubles, such as Epsilon Lyrae were clearly seen, while Jupiter looks stunning.Used with a barlow for sweeping, panoramic lunar vistas.Nul pois for eye relief though.Apart from that,a fine eyepiece.

Awesome premium wide field EP. Made somewhat obsolete by the Radian EP's and their superior eye relief.

Wide field makes up for slightly mushy views. Pretty good for double star observing but better for deep sky.

TeleVue Nagler 4.8mm
Short eye-relief of course. I bought mine used for about $65. Wide fields are nice, but the wide-field design compromises sharpness and contrast. I've got sharper, constrastier Orthos and Ultrascopics. At high power, I don't care about wide-fields that much anyway. I picked it up because I couldn't resist a Nagler. Other than a wide field of view, practically unuseable due to the short eye-relief (even without glasses and with the eyecup folded down), there is little to recommend this eyepiece.

Have you really looked through a 5mm Ortho or 6 Plossl....??? I agree the ER is tight but man.... what do you want?? The image is very sharp and superior to the types you listed by any measure.... I don't believe that many people share your opinion......

TeleVue Nagler 4.8mm
Lower in contrast than a good orthoscopic or plossl. Quite noticeably lower in contrast. Otherwise a nice eyepiece corrections very good across a very wide field.

TeleVue Nagler 4.8mm
The Nagler 4.8mm has a fantastic field of view for a high power eyepiece. This eyepiece gives you sharp bright images. Eyerelief is short but better than many 4mm-5mm eyepieces.Very well made.

TeleVue Nagler 4.8mm
I think that the Pentax XO series are much better than TV Nagler 4.8.
Contrast and sharpness are the keys and TVN don't compete with the Pentax XO in this focal lenght.
Pentax is very cool!!!!

TeleVue Nagler 4.8mm
I hated this Eyepiece. It was sharp enough, it gav some nice views of globulars and planets, but with some lateral color. The eye relief was horrendous though. Almost impossible to see the whole field.
