I use Orin for stuff like adapters and color filters, Maybe a pair of Binoculars. Over the years I have made several small purchases form them. The level of service ahs been good but the knowledge of the products is very dependent on the person you get (seems like to much trouble to hire amateur astronomers or at least people with aninterst in astronomy. Delivery times were right on. Prices are higher than most others but they normally ahve it in stock.

Just recently ordered a 2 inch Barlow. Was disappointed to find it didn't come with a 2 inch plug, only a 2 inch cap. The customer service department, to their credit, has been searching for a spare one to send me, but to no avail.
They now send you email updates about your order to your email address if it is known to them. This included the UPS shipping number. VERY nice, surprising, added touch. Still the best for customer service, and pulling even further ahead of the pack!

Update on the plugs. To their credit, they have sent me a 1 1/4" cap, a 1 1/4" plug, and an eyepiece cover for a 32mm plossl. At least they keep trying instead of forgetting about me. Their technical support guy is very helpful and friendly. He enjoys a good chat about astro equipment.

Sales staff is reasonably curteous. Their prices, however, are the worst I've seen in every equipment category which is why I give them so low a rating. It is nice to order something via the web though and have emails update you on how your order is progressing. I tend to only use this place to buy odd little miscellaneous things, and save buying eyepieces, scopes, etc from somewhere else because of price.

Great sales and support team. I would consider them the "Gateway" of the telescope industry. Prices are high and some of the products they ship do not have the accessories which compare with what other companies have. Still, there are some gems in their catalog, such as the "Ultrablock" when on-sale, as well as the Lanthanum superwides eyepieces which look to be a great deal when compared to Pentex XL and Radians.

Orion has the best catalogue I have ever seen, the best service using e-mail, and loads of little, handy and well thought out gadgetry that I couldn't obtain from anywhere else. Their prices are not the lowest. The only thing wrong with them is that they now no longer ship overseas, and I can no longer use them.

They had fantastic service and were able to answer many of my questions.I never had them ship me anything except for my solar filter but they were all sold out so after a while they told me that they got it and what day they sent it to me and I had it within three to four days!The service people are also extremly friendly and able to explain the product very well.Their web site also gives good descriptions of their products.

Good service. Stopped in their store to check out binoculars. Tested all they had and picked out a pair (Adlerblicks) and mail-ordered them with no problem.

Great Catalog and Web-site ordering.
Standard UPS shipping took 2 weeks to get in-stock items!
I guess they want the extra $$$ for the overnight shipping.
I hate having to spend an extra $15 shipping for a $50 item!
By contrast, I ordered a Pronto from Pocono Mtn. West
and it was delivered to the East Coast in 3 working days
at the normal shipping cost. Go figure!

Expensive for most items, but great catalog and web site. Good return policy. Good delivery times.

The biggest problem I have with Orion is their 'per item' shipping charges which are totally unreasonable. Once I ordered a number of items, including a heavy counterweight and had it shipped 2 day air for a very reasonable $15 or so. Next time I ordered a number of small items and decided to go with their standard shipping and was charged the per item rate - an outrageous $28 for UPS ground (everything fit in a single small box). On two occasions they have happily refunded about half of the shipping charge when queried, but if you don't ask they will charge you the full 'per item' rate. My brother also had a similar experience, and they also gave him a partial refund on the shipping once I told him to complain.

Have dealt with Orion for nearly 20 years. Always received everything on time and they are always nice on the phone. They have even told me where to get stuff when they are out or don't have it. They have a 30 day money back guarantee which they do honor no questions asked, which other astronomy dealers don't even though they tell you they will!!!

Orion also provides good techincal advice. If I buy another scope and they have it I will buy it from them for peace of mind. I give Orion a 9 because of Tim's high prices which could be a little lower.

Ordered several items from them, some as Christmas presents. Something went wrong with their system and my credit card number was rejected, but they confirmed that the order would shipped. After waiting 10 days for the order, I called to find the status and was told about the credit card problem, including that the problem was on their end, not mine, and they KNEW about the problem from the time I placed the order. They made no effort to contact me about the "problem." Since it was now 4 days before Christmas the only way to assure that I would have the order before Christmas was to pay extra for 2 day shipping. They made no offer to pay part of the shipping, and scoffed at the suggestion when I asked. What really bugs me is that they were rude about the whole thing, at one time suggesting that perhaps I was over my limit on my credit card, when that was decidedly not the case AND THEY KNEW IT. The final straw was when my credit card bill came. Orion had charged my card on the original day that I ordered, charged a second time when I called, and then charged a third time with 2 day shipping added. Thankfully the credit card company took care of the overcharges, but I'll never buy from Orion again.

Prices are getting better and better, and no one beats them for customer service, period. I called them about an Orion scope I'd bought second hand, and they sent me a special part they'd made for owners of this scope at no charge!
