Akira
Akira is a groundbreaking, metaphysical, action packed visceral thrill ride; an anime cornerstone which cannot offord to be missed. This films' story however, is far from a simple one. Although it may not be as confusing or complex as say, 'Evangelion', but it's enough to throw off all those mindless, skeptical (so called) anime fans out there. After the films' breathtaking first 15 minutes, (Which I feel is the most entertaining and sucessful portion of the movie) this action packed, gritty sci-fi drama soon transforms into an in depth, philosopical special effects laiden thrill ride; which is for the most part, the main reason why many anime fans dislike this anime. This aspect of their opinions are often covered up, with phrases like "It's a bit overhyped". The truth is akira is really more respected as a monumental 'film' achievment, not as much as a great anime film. Only those who appreciate the true value of american movie history and film could probably understand and appreciate akira. In the end akira is really nothing more than a sci-fi anime film; a film which should definatly not be overlooked by any anime fan. By most, akira would probably not be looked at as a great movie or anime, but it's truly an important one.

Akira
one of the greatest sci-fi films ever created. it doesn't hurt that the animation is some of the best you'll ever see. A truly groundbreaking anime film that was and still is ahead of its time in quality and premise.

Anime makes you stop and wonder why you watched all those Disney movies when you were young, and why you could have watched anime instead.

Akira
An excellent anime! It may be confusing at first but you have to watch it at least two or three times to let it sink in. A definite buy!
I love the final conflict between Tetsuo and Kaneda at the ruins of the AKIRA containment facility!

This is a list of the following animes which I feel stand alone as technilogical achievments in animation:
-Akira
-Ghost In The Shell
-Macross Plus
-The Wings Of Honneamise
-Ninja Scroll
-Princess Mononoke

Just remember that Akira is one of them!!

Akira
This is a masterpiece. Akira is one of those films that leaves you with your mouth open. Not only because of it's spectacular animation, but it's epic conclusion. This is an animation I saw at the wee age of 9 and I have watched continuously into the age of 14 as of August 9. The way the characters move and look portray their personalities perfectly. The ability of director Katsushiro Otomo to portray a character with movement alone is given only through animation. Watching this move you become wise to new ways to watch animation. The plot and attention to detail becomes more prominent with every viewing, as you will always see something new. The ones who hate this film are too unintellectual to sit for 2 minutes with out violence.

Akira
Akira is the greatest Anime ever. It had amazing animation, great story line (after you see it a few times), and has a theme, unlike most anime. Violence was a bit over done but i think that was required to show what kind of an enviorment the directory was trying to display. It also mixed science fiction with current technology, wich i thought was very cool. Subtitle version deserves a 10 and the dubbed a 7.

Akira
It's kinda funny when people insult each other over anime! C'mon, people, it's just entertainment!! Anyways, the animation is just fantastic, even for our day! The story, although lacking the amount of action-to-movie-length ratio that I usually like, is interesting. You can always see in an anime if the creators were painstakingly doing their best in their work, or just trowing together a some pictures and sound to make a quick buck. Akira is definately one that the writer, director, animators, voice actors(Japanese cast), designers, all busted their butts to produce. One word of caution, though; avoid the English-dubbed version at all costs!!!

Akira
For all the hype and all the big budget, this movie is a big 0, zippo, zilch, nada, goose egg.
Granted the graphic is groundbreaking (no pun intended), but so is Phantom Menace. I didn't care much for the storyline--what little of it that actually is coherent--and much like Jar-Jar Bink, I just wanted all the characters to die a horrible, miserable death, preferably within the first 10 minutes to spare those in attendance of the misery that is sure to follow.

Akira
The first time I ever experienced Akira, I saw about twenty seconds of it
(part of the sewer chase sequence and the weird ending bit) and the images
just stuck in my mind. I remember thinking at that time "I gotta see that movie sometime". When I finally did watch all of it (about two years later) I was
just as impressed as I thought I would be, and I went out and bought it. This
film is deeper and more powerful than it looks on the surface. It's not just
a trip into another manga-based gorefest. (There isn't that much violence in it, anyway - no more than your average Quentin Tarantino film). Akira has more than one message hidden inside of it's glossy, kick-ass animated exterior. Admittedly, the storyline is a little hard to follow at first, but the film stands up well to repeated watching - and the characters are intriguing enough.
This was the first Japanese anime film I saw - and it got me hooked on them. If you've never seen an anime film before, rent this one first. If you're into anime but you've never seen this - where the hell have you been?!
Definitely a classic.
