I hated that show the 1 is for the great motor bike secens in it
if thay had of baced it around the clouns in the bike secens it would of been a great movie the start was good the middle was boring but the end was the worst id ever seen.

The MOST absolutely breathtaking anime ever made alongside Mononoke Hime. The action is superbly paced and the plot is well thought out as well. Akira is a near perfect balance between action and plot, although it is probably of acquired tastes due to its detailed and graphic nature.

Didn't really care for the parts about psychic powers and evolution, but the quality animation was beautiful and truly hallmark.

I must say this movie kicked ass! The story line is new and unique and the animation is top quality. The characters are very well developed and the action never ends. Dont miss this film! Nothing beats Akira!

This is probably the best anime I've ever seen, and I've seen it many times. The story is awesome. The first time I saw it I was amazed, but thought that I understood it all. Every time that I've watched it since then I keep noticing or understanding new things, and I'm also amazed each time I see it. The animation is also awesome. If you didn't understand it you should watch it again, but even if you don't like deep plots, just don't pay attention and enjoy the animation...

Akira rules. Plain and simple. The artwork was amazing, and the storyline was unique. It's been my favorite since the first time I saw it, and it was Akira that jump-started my intense love for anime. I have one thing to say to you people that say it sucks: watch it again!! The plot in Akira is mind-bogglingly complex and can't be understood the first time it's seen. You need to watch it two or three times to really understand what's going on. The first time you watch it, watch it for the animation and music. Enjoy that first. THEN go back and figure out what's going on. Same thing for Ghost in the Shell. I would reccomend watching the subtitled version. It's a bit easier to understand the story.

Anyone that disses Akira has a small brain and simple mind. The movie is indeed thought provoking. I tend to enjoy the humanity-bashing animes. This is one of them. The animation isn't really top notch. The soundtrack rules (I bought it after listening to the MP3s). I wouldn't go as far as to say it is thought provoking, but for me it was. Some people may be like me and think about the story line. The story line is confusing, but if you watch it enough times it all falls into place. So watch it often and it becomes the classic it truly is.

Another Anime classic, and a pioneer in some ways...for better and for worse. Great animation, exciting action. I like Akira, but truthfully, as cool as this movie is, it's plot is so ridiculously open-ended (hardly anything gets explained, even in the end), that it never really makes any clear statement about anything, or ties together all of its elements. I respect all the people who look for something intelligent and meaningful in Anime (I do, too!), but don't be fooled by Akira. You can read all the comics, watch the movie twenty times, and it still won't make any damn sense! People are trying to justify it by saying it's intellectually challenging the audience, and that would be fine, but I don't think this is the case. Rather, it throws out possibilities that you can make assumptions on, which is fine, but since it seems to be leading up to something, it's just frustrating to see that it constantly evades ever really having to explain key elements of the story. The ending just seems like they ran out of time. They didn't realize how little time they had left, and just had to end the movie. The hell with a conclusion, they were just trying to come in under budget!

That is why you need to watch it a few times to catch all the little details. If you do that, then it WILL make sense. I think that you people that think Akira sucks are just closed minded people that want everything served to them on a platter. Akira rules!!

The animation in Akira is some of the best in existence.
The storyline was perfect, though it was a little hard to understand,(all you have to do is watch it a second or third time.) . I liked it because it makes you think.
The characters were the definition of perfection, (though Kanada was badly acted in the dubbed version.) Tetsuo was the best. He had a complex personality which was the product of an abusive childhood, and the fact that his only friends picked on him constantly. In the begenning you can tell that he has extreme supressed rage, which might explain why, when he received his powers, he acted in the way that he did.
The ending (which I still don't fully get.) is, well, depressing.
All and all it was a great animation, (if you don't mind some quick nudity and a lot of violence.) and if for no other reason, watch it for the animation, you WON'T be dissipointed in that area

Powerhouse, visually innovative, monumental, metaphysical, thrill ride, sci-fi action fest are words that only half describe the complexity behind this breakthough anime film. This anime film is "Akira", a film which centers around a young boy who obtains supernatural powers through top-secret governmental experiments. It is mainly classified as sci-fi, although the actual story is too complex to describe. The film's animation is top-notch, crisp, sharp and incredibly detailed;and way ahead of it's time;and still hold up well to this day. Akira is one of the most celebrated and well-known anime films out there. Considered a breakthough. But is it one of the best? Yes. The greatest of all time? probably not. Despite all that, this is one of the best films anime has to offer, and should be seen at least once. Anime probably would not have the present popularity and great success it has today if this film had not existed. All in all a 10.

Anime wouldn't be the same without one of it's greatest breakthroughs. But of cours, any anime seems like a breakthrough compared to anything that ever came out of Disney. I believe anime to be the greatest form of animation.
