Akira has got to be the most confusing movie of all time!!! Although the Dubbed version was Ok "Tatsui NO!!!! YOU"LL PAY FOR THIS SHREDDER!!!" But the main charecter was the voice actor from Leo in TMNT!! Anyways this movie was action packed and was very enjoyable!!!

I thought akira was VERY confusing the first time i saw it (it took me 3 days to recover)but he more nd more i watched it,the more i understood...some of the best animation,but i'm a sucker for Neuromancer type settings.

It's fun to watch at first but the end is quite confusing. I guess it's up to anyone's interpretation. And another comment: It should have been titled TETSUO instead of AKIRA to me. :-)

the animation and artwork was fantastic but the movie experiences the same problem that most comic-book adaptations have: too much is squeezed into too little time. Two hours was not enough to accomodate 2000 pages of story. It was an entertaining, if not confusing, effort by Katsushiro Otomo. Try his other films such as memories or perfect blue.

Awesome visuals, except for the characters. Great story, too.
It's obvious how those of lesser mind may be confused at this, but hey, not everyone's equal in the upstairs department ^_^
Overall: awesome, but lacks the charm of Ghost in the Shell, and the character artwork just plain sucks.

A masterpiece! The plot and the action practically slaps you in the face.
Riveting, yet mysterious; and allround PSYCOTIC! Sad ending, though.

I'm going to be contoversial here (though not quite as much as I first thought ^_^) and say that I simply hated Akira. I'm sorry, but I've had it up to here with nothing but gory, dark cyberpunk, and I absolutely can't stand that! For me, Akira is just another entry in the loooong line of dull, forgetable cyberpunk animes. I really don't see what the fuss is all about. The four marks it does get are just because it at least tries to have some point and substance to it (but fails pretty miserably).

This movie reminds me a lot of Fist of the North Star. How so? Well, both of them were dubbed (very poorly) by Streamline. Both of them got attention for their violence. And, most of all, both of them are *insanely* over-rated.

Yes, for 1989, the animation is excellent. Yes, the plot is moderately interesting. But there's better - much better - stuff out there. If you are intent on watching this, I heavily recommend seeking out the subtitled version.

Still the best. This is the benchmark by which all other anime should be judged. This was a truly outstanding film, and if there is a better title anywhere within this genre... well I haven't seen or heard of it yet!
