TeleVue Nagler Type 6 13mm
Wide 82*...big visual impact in very small package. Is more fun than recent 16mm T5 Nagler - longer eye relief and larger exit aperture. Better comfort to hold view over 16mm T5 when eye pupil slightly dilated. Very high contrast, color saturated image. Very good sharpness but, under critical testing, seems not "ultimately" so. Probably binoviews OK but seems unlikely if for bright moon or daylight from amount of kidney bean distortion. It's new - time will tell.

Mine is the longish commentary above. For reference, factory eye relief spec supposed to be 12mm but I carefully measured this at 11mm off from top of eyepiece.

What are you paying for when you buy a 13mm Nagler, that was the question that I ask myself when I handed over half a week's wages. Well I am glad I did, compared to my plossl it has that spaceport view which is sharp right to the edge where the plossl is only really sharp in the middle 25 degrees. The contrast is the same or better than a good quality Ortho, but for the whole 82degrees with no unwanted colours. The only thing I find a little annoying is that if you are not looking directing into the eyepiece I was getting a little kidney bean effect.
Looking at Orion Nebulae using XT10 Dobsonian the dark reds and light blues are quite noticeable. On Zeta Orion it has no problem breaking up the three stars when used in conjunction with 5x power mate. Viewing Jupiter, again using the 5x Powermate, shows the surface with lots of surface colour and detail. At this magnification Jupiter's moons are quite large but I am still waiting for that perfect night to see some surface detail. I didn't realize how well the eyepiece performed until I went to a star party a compare it with other eyepieces. It must admit that the eyepieces I compare it to cost 6 time less.

I agree with this entry, although I've never used a 14uwa.  This eclipses the original 9 nagler based on contrast, full field sharpness....  and most important of all...weight... It's about half as massive and close to my 4.8 in weight.  The 9 always gives me anxiety when I use it in my SPC-102 and RF-80, with me thinking that it will fall off the scopes. It is well suited for my 10" f/4.5 though, but rides rather tall on the focuser and yields 127x...... great for deep-sky.  The 13 is fabulous on my Nexstar 8i at 156x.  I think I'm going to get a lot of use out of this and it is worth the money, since it blows away Kellners (ugh), Orthos and Plossls in every respect.  In the RF-80 @ f/5, the field is absolutely sharp across the entire field !!!!  I've yet to try it in the 10".
Al Nagler should get a Nobel Prize for his contributions to amateur astronomy.....I think I'm spoiled...............

what kind of scope are you using that you could push the magnification to this level (13mm with 5x powermate)?

I have to say, this is one of the most impressive eyepieces I have used. It is every bit as good as my old 13mm Nagler, 14mm Meade UWA, and 14mm Pentax Xl. If I could change one thing it would be the rubber eyecup. You get a much larger FOV with the cup folded down, but the cap only fits with it rolled up. The eyecup is very stiff. The eyepiece must be good if that is the only complaint I can muster up.

Contrast, contrast, contrast!
I've seen fuzzies with this 13mm that were never apparent in any other eyepiece owned, im my 8" Schmidt.
Perfect size for the 1.25" diagonal.
The view envelopes the eye for beautiful wide fields.

I delayed getting this eyepiece for some time because I already had several other eyepieces near this same focal length. Now that I have it, I don't regret it. This eyepiece is now tied with my Nagler 31 for first place position in my rather large eye piece collection. I have all of the type 6 Naglers, and this one is the best of the bunch. The Nagler 13 type 6 seems to spend more time in my scopes than any other eyepiece.

I purchased the 13mm to complete an eyepiece collection that includes panoptics , pentax xl , and plossl eyepices. I was impressed with the contrast and overall performance on galaxys and nebulae but was somewhat dissapointed with using in combination with my barlow. Images seemed a little less bright when compared with 12.5 ultima and 15 mm plossl barlow combos. Planets looked better in the eyepieces with fewer lens elements. For deep sky viewing I highly recomend however if planets and moon are your main focus the extra expense of these type 6's are hard to justify. I sold mine and got a meade 13.8 superwide which works well with my 3X barlow on the planets and at half the price.

even 11mm eye relief is just about right for me
I actually perfer this over 20mm relief of others.
I don't like the price tag, otherwise
I would buy entire set.

C9.25 sct. Sharpness and contrast are surprising considering 82 degree afov, lives up to the hype. I own a complete set of UO orthoscopics that I use for critical viewing ( as well as Ultimas, TV Plossls, Panoptics) .. the 12.5 ortho is a bit sharper, but the 13mmT6 has twice the afov. Planetary views are very nice, tonight, Saturn and M1 in the same field ... again, sharpness and contrast are amazing.

Wow. I forgot about the price the moment I took my first look through this Nagler in my 78 f6.6 Stellarview. Sharp to the edge. Bright, contrasty images, and a wonderful field of view. I don't see any kidney beaning, and think it barlows beautifully.

If your scope is in the f 6.5 range, this is THE Nagler for you.

The 13 T6 will become my "open cluster buster" and galaxy ocular.

Another truely excellent eyepiece by Mr. Nagler. I have the 13mm Type 1 as well, and the new 13mm T6 is a peanut sitting next to it. This is a good thing! Much easier to keep the scopes balanced. The contrast in this eyepiece is incredible and the FOV is sharp out to about 90% in my f5 dob. BTW, it did extreemly well on the Moon and Mars last night, very sharp, just like my Radians and Pentax XL's. This is not just a deep sky eyepiece. I sold my 14mm Pentax XL after doing side-by-side comparisons. I have the 9mmT6 on order as well. Highly recommeded.

used in f/5 Dob.

Hugely impressed, wonderful wide fields and decent eye relief for non glasses wearers, reasonably small size too. Sharpness was the real winner though, expected it to be slightly soft compared to UO orthos etc but wasn't.

This is now my number one deep sky ep, its hard to imagine something better, the price (expensive) would be the only reason not have one. Though I feel this still pretty good value for the money versus how much it will get used.

I've noticed that the some of the best views through all of my telescopes (16" f4.5, 8"f5, 3.1"f8 APO) have been with this eyepiece. Images are always sharp, show good detail and are very pleasing. Part of the "10" rating goes to usability - its small and gets used a lot. I have other EPs close to this focal length, but they almost never get used now (my 19 axiom is languishing).

TeleVue Nagler Type 6 13mm
This is one of the best eyepieces I have used so far in this power range. Works great in fast scopes. I use it in my 17.5" f/5 and friends f/4.5 and it is sharp to the edge. Everyone who has looked through it is amazed, even more so when I do the field of view trick(50 degree eyepiece first, then a Nagler. I chose this instead of the Meade 14mm UWA, because the camera shop didn't have any to try. But, I was happy for trying the T6 out and I love the clarity and compact design. Though, with the old 13, you kinda felt you got more glass by the extra weight. I haven't noticed any softness anywhere in the 82 degree fov. I haven't used it yet for planetary(sharp on planets too) since I typically use my scope for dso's. I like the design and performance so much that I will buy the 9mm T6 very soon. Worth the 280 dollars. Its a life long keeper, unless something truly amazing comes along.

Been using this ep's for a while now in my 15in f4.5 obssesion.This is one excellent ep's.Starting to be my favorite.Great eye releif' better than the 16t5 by a littel.Larger eye lens,Great contrast and light transmission.Also barlows very well.Light weight so it can be used in a bino which i will try soon,Can't go wrong with this ep's.THANKS BOBHART

This is one of my favorites in my 10" SCT f/10 scope.
Clear and crispy views. Maybe not the very best eyepiece for
planetary views but that can also depend on the clearity in the atmosphere. A clear night looking at the moon with
a moonfilter and 193X magnification against the disc is really
a fantastic view. You can also use the eyepiece without any
trouble in a good barlow like TeleVue 2x barlow and still get fine views if the conditions are good. It is defenitly worth the price and will be used alot. One small complain is the ER whitch is only 12mm but that's you have to live with. It is hard to make 1.25" eyepieces with FOV > 80 with good eye relief when the FL is shorter than 18mm, so 12 to 13 mm is max you can get today. Highly recommended for 8,10 and 12 slow SCT scopes. It is funny how different people are regarding eyepieces. I did NOT like this at all.
I get kidney beans when trying to take the entire field of view in. The only way to do it is to get really close to the glass. Really annoying! When you are this close, your eyelashes begin to sweep the glass resulting in a greasy mess within minutes. And yes, it is hard to view without blinking :o)

I didn´t think I would have problems with tight eyerelief, because I have no problem with 4mm ortho, but I was wrong.

Another thing I didn´t expect. I experience field curvature when using it - especially on the moon. This was in a f/6 AT1010 and Stellarvue f/8 apo. I only have seen this in a lowbudget eyepiece I also have. Naglers should not do this at this price!

So please try before buying! Many seems to like it for some reason.....

Like most eyepieces, the success of the 13mm T6 depends on the scope being used (how often has this been said?). The previous reviewer commented that he wasn't happy with the performance of the 13mm on an f6 AT1010 and this indeed is my experience with this eyepiece on my own short focal length small refractor - a f6.6 Borg 76ED. There's just too much blackout and the observing experience is generally rather uncomfortable. For this scope I skip straight from a 24mm Panoptic (perfect for these small short fl scopes) to a 7.5mm Tak LE (perfect starting fl for planetary). In other scopes it's a totally different story however and the 13mm is absolutely my #1 eyepiece on my 6" f6 MN, for example.
Moral of the story? No eyepiece is perfect in all scopes; it would be a good idea if every reviewer on this site mentioned the specification of the scope they were using before providing the final verdict on the eyepiece itself.

The 13mm T6 is my first Nagler - and I am quite pleased with the performance. The EP is exceptionally sharp, shows good contrast and mates well with the TV 2x barlow. If I could only have one EP to use in my 6" refractor, this would be the EP.

TeleVue Nagler Type 6 13mm
This is by far the best eyepiece that I have ever owned. For the high number of elements that this eyepiece has it gives outstanding views of both saturn and jupiter in my 8" sct. I have owned quality meade and celestron eyepieces and this eyepiece blows them both away. I recommend this eyepiece very highly!!!
