Celestron Ultima 30mm
One of the very best low power 1.25" oculars available and an excellent choice for those wanting relatively wide fields of view with the right amount of eye relief.

Celestron Ultima 30mm
This is one eyepiece I will never part from. All the praise I could heap on it has already been stacked by the writers before me.

There are a couple of side notes. First, I noticed that it is very sensitive to glare hitting the eye lens when my OIII filter is in it. I have to shield myself very well from light coming from beside my head - my 30mm doesn't have an eyecup, which would probably retify the issue.

Second, I picked mine up used at the Riverside Conference for $45. I've wondered if this amounts to robbery.

First impressions are of a well made eyepiece; multicoatings having been applied to all surfaces. The apparent field of view clearly exceeds the stated 52 degrees. Eye relief is near perfect with no blackout areas apparent. Stray light suppression is excellent; on looking at the 1/2 moon it was very apparent how black the surrounding sky was. On my Meade 8 inch F10 LX 50 stars show up as stight pinpoints in the central part of the field; I do however notice coma at the field edges together with a slight touch of lateral chromatic aberration. The coma is also seen to a lesser extent on the Meade 26 mm Series 4000 Plossl but is not apparent on the 12.5 mm Univ ortho or the 8 mm Radian. My suspicion at this point is that the coma may be due to the scope's optics. Would be interested to hear of anyone else's experiences with this eyepiece in Schmidt's vs well corrected refractors eg Astro Physics, Takahashi, Televue etc.
Overall a fine eyepiece. Reccommeded.

Celestron Ultima 30mm
After reading all the glowing reports on this form, I bought a 30mm Ultima. Well folks, hate to tell you but comparing my TV32mm side by side with the 30mm Ultima, The Televue EP is far superior in sharpness, light thruput, stop to stop correctness, contrast, etc. and so forth. The comparisons were done on a TV102 and a good 12.5" F5 Dob. I am an Ultima fan and have 3 other Ultimas so this EP leaves me very disapointed.

Celestron Ultima 30mm
Nice 1.25 long focal length EP. Don't like the cheap "wing" eyeguard and sometimes seemed to have trouble holding the view because of it and the longish eye-relief. My sample was sharp and contrasty. Worth the money although, personally, I'd rather buy a Panoptic 22mm or similar and enjoy more more magnification and darker sky background for the same field stop. Obviously such sophistication comes at a greater price but I think it's worth the expense. Eventually sold it once I bought a scope that takes 2 inch pieces...with no regrets.

Celestron Ultima 30mm
According to consensus one of the best and most beloved low-power 1.25" EP for binoviewing (binoviewers and binoscopes). I have been using my pair of Ultima 30mm in my home-made 6-inch F/5 Newtonian Binoscope enjoying incredibly (3-D!!) hi-fidelity sweeping views of nebulae, clusters and galaxy. This EP is second-to-none when it comes to binoviewing (you really need 1.25" EP--- expensive 2" Naglers or Panoptics are too bulky and heavy for standard binoviewers, unless you own a binoscope)

Celestron Ultima 30mm
Sharp views through SCT 9.25". However, I have only one complaint and it's a big one: eye relief. It's simply too long, especially since I don't wear glasses. It's hard to hold head steady to get maximum view. Otherwise, it's sharp right to the edge. Great mid-price performer.

Celestron Ultima 30mm
I bought this eyepiece to get the widest possible TFOV for my new 12.5” f/5 Discovery Dob, without switching to a two-inch eyepiece. I have a Meade 24.5mm SWA, but at f/5 it performs poorly; I can’t even get a sharp focus on axis. Not willing to shell out the big bucks for a 24mm Panoptic, I bought the Celestron 30mm Ultima. The Ultima does perform better than the SWA at f/5; it has less astigmatism, only noticeable in outer 10% of the FOV (20% of the total FOV). On axis the Ultima is reasonably sharp, but I do notice spiking on brighter stars, but this may be an artifact of my eye owning to the 6mm exit pupil. As noted by other, if you don’t where eyeglasses, the eye relief may be a bit to long. Without being able to rest my brow on the eyecup, I find it a little difficult keeping my eye position correctly. Also, with my eye hovering well above the eye lens, the winged eyecup is of little use.

Celestron Ultima 30mm
This is one suberb eyepiece. Just picked one up from the Vancouver Telescope Center here in Canada.
First light was with my Skywatcher ED 80. A match made in heaven. Nice wide field with good contrast and nearly sharp to the edge. No blackout and very good eye relief. 20 power with a true field of 2.5 degrees in the ED80 with a 4mm exit pupil. Objects such as the Pleiades, Double Cluster and the Beehive were well framed with tight pinpoint stars and with good contrast. A keeper!

Celestron Ultima 30mm
This eyepiece is very sharp. It gives crisp images over the entire field of my 8" f10 SCT. This eyepiece also gives the brightest edge I have ever seen. Many eyepieces tend to vignette near the field stop. There seems to be a slight dimming on many eyepieces. This eyepiece is not only sharp on edge, it has a bright edge also. It is easier to take in the entire field with this eyepiece, while looking at the center, than a standard 4 element plossl. You do not have to work as hard to get the view you want with this eyepiece. I can think of no way it could be improved. Perfect.

Celestron Ultima 30mm
This EP gets a lot of glowing reviews because it is one great EP. Very good EP for f/15 Mak-Cass or f/16 achromat in order to get a big enough exit pupil for deep sky observation. Stars are sharp to the field stop. Since Celestron no longer imports these, you can get similar EP's from Orion, Antares or Baader.
