Wehr Astronomical Society

I was a member of this club for 3 years. I quit the club ONLY because of its distance from my home as I could not get involved. Otherwise, it is a great organization!

They have monthly meetings at the Wehr Nature Center in Whitnall Park and bi-weekly meetings at Froemming Park in Franklin. In addition to the club members, the public is encouraged to come to any of their meetings. There are generally 6-15 people with (quality) telescopes at the Froemming Park observing sessions.
The WAS is aimed mostly at teaching the public about astronomy. It is a great way to start if you have questions about telescopes, etc.

As of 2002, the WAS had about 130 members. Most of these do not attend every meeting.

Overall, I would highly recommend this club to anyone starting out in amateur astronomy. As well as anyone in the area who has already begun the hobby of A.A. and would like to meet some really nice people to chat with!
