esca flowne was a very unique anime. it was the best animation i have ever seen! everything was great about it, except they didn't show chesta enough.

Beautifully detailed animation (especially for a TV series); interesting plot; and the best music I've ever heard (Youko Kanno's compositions are wonderful, especially when combined with Maaya Sakamoto's beautiful voice). This series takes the best aspects of shounen and shoujo anime, and creates something better. If you can only see one anime series, this is the one to watch.

Vision of Escaflowne is a MASTERPIECE. there are few things in this world that I could describe in that fashion. This is one of them. In all honesty, utilitzing unbiased forms of comparison, Escaflowne is the absolute FINEST anime tv series produced to date. It is not my alltime favorite anime (that is Dangaio) and that is why I do not rate it a 10, even though it truely deserves one. (dangaio is the only anime that ever gave me goosebumps, though Escaflowne and Kenshin have come damn close). If you have not seen this series, IMMEDIATELY DO SO. To do otherwise is to deny yourself anime's finest achievement, and that would be true tradgedy.

This is not exactly what I'd call an original anime. It takes two overused anime concepts -- medieval chivalry and futuristic technology -- and rudely slams them together with mixed results. The love icosahedron between the characters is disgustingly lame; if the producers didn't know how to handle the romantic aspect then they shouldn't have put it in. And WHAT WAS UP WITH THOSE VARIABLE-SIZE NOSES?! Escaflowne has this wonderful "look" but the character design is horrible. The only character with any depth was Hitomi, and even SHE was rather 2-dimensional.

Excellent mix of fantasy with old-school style mecha plot-lines/characters. Killer soundtrack, with Gregorian Chants, Classical, Opera....Good use of CG for manipulation. Ending is a bit sad, but what the hell.

Very different and original. Yes, it did employ the two most overused anime elements in medieval setting and giant mecha, but this series nonetheless shows some unique concepts flowing behind. To me the biggest shortcomings of the anime is the classic "good guys vs. bad guys" framework, which is both boring and unrealistic. In this anime there are no true villains, or even a truly villainous ideology, which is often the case in the real world. It just exposes the hidden side of human desires which has driven and governed the world, both Gaea and our "Maboroshi no Tsuki."

This series reminded me a lot of Fushigi Yuugi, but it is remarkably superior to FY in a lot of aspects, especially the character developments. Each character, with tragic events and ordeals confronting them in every corner of the plot, struggles with them realistically and learns to cope with them realistically. There are scores of love triangles, but they are there primarily to serve the purpose of exposing each individual's inner struggles, not to flood the viewers with soap opera-like love quests, which sadly a lot of anime shows indulge into.

The plot is excellent, entertaining and it fits the character developments smoothly. The theme is also set up beautifully by the unwiding of the plot.

The animation is stunning, and while OP and ED do not exactly inspire awe, most of the BGMs do. And I love the ending... personally I would have loved to see Hitomi becoming the Queen of Fanelia, but that would not have made the ending as beautiful as it is.

This is the highest rating I've ever given to any series -- it should be darn near a perfect 10. I gave Evangelion and Gundam 0080 a 10, which in hindsight shouldn't have been rated that high. Certainly one of the best anime series I've had a chance to watch so far.

The plot was extremly engrossing-fast paced, had strong climaxes to keep it going. The characters were well developed and likable. Animation is excellent. The story had a wonderful mix of humour, action, romance, and melancholy.

An extremely well thought out dramatic series. I was expecting a sort of simplistic storyline due to the overall premise being that of the "school girl sucked into a fantasy world" like such series as Fushigi Yuugi, which is a very shallow, but likeable cartoon. Rather, Escaflowne deviates from that path by focusing more on moral dilemmas and the consequences of one's feelings rather than Fushigi's dumbass schoolgirl and slapstick approach. It is a magnificently done series that oozes with magical atmosphere, which is presented with superb animation and unique character designs, which, although awkward at first due to their unusually large noses, is rather easy to get used to. Escaflowne is one of the best dramatic series out there in the world of animation, and is one of the most fulfilling shows to behold. Great animation, and a complex plot accompanied by a very classical and majestic soundtrack make this a rare, breathtaking example of entertainment.

The Vision of Escaflowne has got to be THE best anime series out there. In my opinion, each character is loveable and realalistic. The art, music, voices and plot is amazing. I have seen about 25 different anime, and this has got to be the best yet. There is drama, action, romance, a bit of comedy, everything! Boys, girls, men and women would love this series. (BESIDES< VAN AND HITOMI ARE THE CUTEST COUPLE!)

In California, San Jose, our winter percussion group loves Escaflowne soo much that our show is entirely Vision of Escaflowne music! Flying Dragon, Arcadia, Epistle, and Dance of Curse. We recently just played for the Japanese Anime Convention. It was great!

Alright seeing as how I haven't seen all the episodes I won't actually vote.

I absolutely HATED the animation. It totaly ruined what appears to be a decent storyline. I suppose somdday I'll sitdown and watch the rest of the series but for the moment I can't get past the Sinamascope looking charcaters with their overly long pointy noses and size 13 feet. I wish someone would redo all the charcter drawings so I could actually sit through the rest of the episodes.
