Celestron Ultima 35mm
Great sharpness, contrast, brightness, etc. but too much eye relief makes it hard to find and then hold the view. Move your eye a bit and OOPS! Where'd the stars go? Sold mine and bought a 30mm Ultima and like it a whole lot better.

Great eye relief; nice for those of us who wear glasses. Sharp star images edge to edge, and very bright.

This one is a bit disappointing in clarity of views although the brightness is impressive. This is a great low power ep for 1-1/4" focusers to find faint objects. Stars can sometimes be curvy at edge of field. And I would rather they made the rubber eyecup permanently attached so you can put the lens cap on without having to remove the eyecup each time.

Great contrast and resolution to the edge of the field. Get a nice wide field without balance problems usually induced by the big 2 inch wide-field pieces. Sold 2 inch pieces after comparisons. Sorry Al, yes they might be the best, but not worth the added weight on the scope or out of the wallet.

Excellent value, available for about $90-$100. However, after having used premium eyepieces like Televue, I can't give Ultimas more than an 8. But they are truly great for the money.

I give the 35mm a 7.5 rating due to a kidney-bean effect which makes it hard to place your eye at exactly the right spot. The eye relief is too good, especially for non-eyeglass wearers!

Excellent sharpness and contrast, good low-power views, bright pinpoint stars to nearly the edge of field. The low power will also allow a lot of sky glow to permeate the view, however. The view is quite gray in light-polluted areas.

Very lightweight compared to Televue ep's.

Superb sharpness and contrast, much better than the generic Plössls that came with my scope. This is the only eyepiece I've seen M51 with, but it is also only the third eyepiece I've owned, including the standard equipment eyepieces on my scope (25mm and 9mm Plössls). The Plössls are good, but even with the higher magnification of the 25mm, I couldn't see M51 at all, as opposed to seeing clearly the double nuclei and some faint structure (no discernible spiral structure, possibly due to low magnification). The field is very sharp and flat right out to the edge. The apparent field is about average (advertised as 49°) which is very good for an eyepiece that offers the widest possible field in a 1.25" eyepiece. The reason I'm giving it an 8 instead of a 10 is the too-long eye relief for non-eyeglass wearers. At 25mm, it's far to difficult to hold the view, and it even seems to get tougher as the night wears on. Not a pleasure to use, although it gives very bright sharp images when it does work. This is not an eyepiece to use with a barlow. Too heavy and the eye relief seems to get still longer. Recommended anyone who needs or doesn't mind longer eye relief and needs the widest true field without vignetting or sacrificing apparent field.

Really nice widefield for the money. It's contrasty, although images at the edge are a bit iffy. As others have said, there's perhaps a bit too much eye relief, but once I got familiar with the eyepiece, I never had any problem holding the image. Great for open clusters, larger objects and starhopping.

This is one big hunk of glass with a quality feel to it. ~Widest actual f.o.v available in 1.25" size. Nice contrast and sharpness, but a bit soft around the edges in my f/6 reflector(not a problem in my f/9 refractor). Consider also that when used in light polluted areas the background sky will be quite gray compared to shorter focal length EP's. The very long eye relief made it difficult to use until I replaced the winged type eyeguard with a bellows type from Orion. Now my eye is perfectly positioned every time, with no kidney bean effect. If you observe from fairly dark sites this is a highly recommended "finder" EP.

Sharp optics, pinpoint stars and excelent contrast in my SCT f/10.

In short, it is a very good inexpensive eyepiece. High constrast and very bright image. When compared to the $300 eyepiece it is on par with every aspects but slightly come in short on the field of view. Great eyepiece.
