TeleVue Panoptic 19mm
This is the eyepiece I've been looking for! Truly a revelation in viewing perfection. I've owned many plossl and cheaper wide field designs, but none of them are close in image sharpness and contrast! The only fault I can find is the edge coma in my f5 dobs however when barlowed ( and I assume paracorred ) this disappears. In my 8" f7 newt, my lunar and planetary scope, the views are perfection! My next purchase is going to be the 22mm and 27mm panoptics. THANKS AL !!!

The perfect choice for a first quality eyepiece for an 8" f/10 SCT! In a 2000mm scope it runs just over 100X with a eye friendly 2mm exit pupil (8" scope). With a true FOV of .63 degrees it perfectally frames the full moon and works well for most of the common deep sky objects. Best of all it works well with the Barlow without getting into obscene high magnifications! The eye relief is perfect and still works well with glasses on. It will also serve you well if you ever buy an f/6 or faster scope where it will still have excellent edge sharpness. It is more expensive then a Meade 18mm SWA or a Celestron 19mm Axiom but try those in an f/5 scope sometime! Also Tele Vue stands behind their products better then the rest! Try one, you'll LOVE it!

This was the first premium eyepiece that I bought. Although it took me a while to work up to dropping that much money on an ep, I have not regreted it one bit. This is one of my favorite ep's. It works great in every telescope that I have used it in from f/5-f/10. Comfortable eye relief with a sharp wide fov in a small little package.

A very good eyepiece. But I still think the Pentax XL is better. Now that the XL's are not longer available, replaced by the XW at $350 a pop, maybe some would consider the Televue line. But let me tell you, you will not belive how large the Penatx XW's are. The Pentax is heavier than the Panoptic, but not excessivley so. Not enough to throw the balance of your scope off.


I really was expecting more from this Panoptic than what I got. Don't get me wrong, it is better than a Generic Plossl, but I don't think it is $230 better. Put out the extra money and get the Pentax. You will be amazed at the Pentx when you open the box it is shipped in.

Agree with all the good stuff other people have said here about the 19mm, but have to give it an 8 because the eye relief is noticeably less than the advertised 13mm. Put it this way, if I can see the edge of the field, my eyelashes are touching the glass when I blink, and they aren't THAT long! Great EP but the eye relief issue makes me wish I'd got the 18 Radian or even laid out a bit more for the 24 PO.

This is one of my most used eyepeices for allround performance in an 8 inch SCT. Fabulous views at what seems to be almost always the right magnification for clarity and magnification.Definitely one of the great eyepieces available.

This was my first premium eyepiece, bought two years ago and is still in my collection. All aspects including sharp image to the edge of the field, wide field of view, light weight, small size, ease of use in any telescope, make it one of the great eyepieces for astronomy hobbyists to enjoy. Highly recommended.

My favorite all around binoviewing eyepiece. Super comfortable to use, exceptional views, compact, light weight. When viewing M42 (through binos) you want to just jump in. I recommend getting the Orion Winged Rubber Eyeguard (catalog # 07406) if you plan to use it for binoviewing.
