Zeiss Abbe Orthoscopic 10mm
A consistently great eyepiece, like ALL the Zeiss-Jena .965 Orthos (4, 6, 8, 10, 12.5, 16, and 25mm). In my opinion, these outperform all Japanese-designed oculars, including the Takahashi .965 Orthos and the new Pentax SMC Orthos. Planetary viewing is superb with finest detail rendition, especially impressive when used in a Zeiss bino-viewer with the 2X Barlow lens. The 40mm (thread-in type) Ortho by Zeiss-Jena is also excellent, and a rare focal length for this design.

By the way, this .965 is an Ernst Abbe design, they simply added the name in late production of a few 1.25-inch examples, which had different coatings and a slightly higher index of refraction in one of the glass elements. I have used both types extensively, and saw little improvement in the later, larger style.

Zeiss Abbe Orthoscopic 10mm
The best of the Zeiss Abbe Ortho line, this ocular outperforms even the 9mm Pentax smc ortho (which can not be said of the six's). Don't confuse these with the Zeiss Jena .965" oculars that are somewhat inferior. If you can find one, buy it!

Zeiss Abbe Orthoscopic 10mm
I purchsed a 10mm "aus Jena" Orthoscopic before the Wall came down. It is easily the finest 10mm lunar and planetary eyepiece I've ever seen. I've used Claves, UO Orthos, Edmund RKEs, TV Plossls, widefield designs from Meade, Televue and Pentax, you name it. Nothing can touch the 10mm Zeiss. That said, the 11mm Televue Plossl and 12mm Edmund RKE are close. If you can't find a Zeis ortho, get one of these. I would rank them Zeiss, Edmund RKE, then TV Plossl.

Outstanding corrections. One of the best planetary eyepieces along with the other zeiss ortho's. These eyepieces are way better than other ortho's.

jupiter in a zeiss APQ and zeiss barlow and this ocular is incredibly well rendered. If you are a planetary observer and own a optically high quality scope then consider getting the best possible contrast. They do not come better than these little beauties.

Zeiss Abbe Orthoscopic 10mm
If not the best 10mm planetary eyepiece ever made it is in the top three. Perfect eye relief, perfect sharpness, perfect color transmission. Sometimes I get so involved in the image produced by this eyepiece that I forget I am looking through a telescope.

Zeiss Abbe Orthoscopic 10mm
The best planetary eyepiece I've yet to use. It goes with a 100 mm fluorite triplet Zeiss A.P.Q refractor. In side by side comparisons with various plossls the 10 mm gives better colour rendition and better contrast. With barlow and good seeing views at 200 X are unbelievably sharp on Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.
