TeleVue WideField 24mm
I had a 24mm Panoptic but had to sell it when money became tight. Later I got an erfle but was a little disappointed not just with edge performance but overall contrast as well so I sold it. I recently picked up a used TV 24mm Widefield and am very impressed. Unlike some of the claims of the knockoff brands, this one is truly 90% of the performance of a Panoptic.

It has all of the contrast of TeleVue's later offering with darn good edge performance as well. The eye relief is just a tad shorter, (going by feel, don't have actual numbers before me), and the true FOV is slightly less but these are minor nits when looking for great performance at a reasonable price.

Back to the edge performance. That last 10-20% of the field starts to soften in my F6 achro while it may stretch to 25% in my F5 Newtonian. I really want to emphasize the word "soften". Not seagull's, not comets, just soft, somewhat bloated stars.

Pick one up if you get a chance. You'll be glad you did.
Mike

The 24mm wide field is a superb 1.25" lowpower eyepiece.I have had one for 12 years and I still love it.I almost sold my 24mm because I bought 2" 27mm panoptic last year I'm glad I didn't sell it.The TV 24mm is a bit better than a Meade 24.5 mm I compaired with so I'll keep it for my st80 which uses 1.25" only. The 24mm work's great in my st80,C6 and 12.5"f6 reflector.

This eyepiece is no longer made, but sometimes you can get them on the used market. So I got mine.

Contrast and sharpenss is good to very good in the center and still good on the edges in a not too fast system. It behaves well in my 6"/1:5 Newtonian but works really better on my 1:10 refractor and on the 1:14 maksutov.

As far as I know it is a modified Erfle design with much better edge perfomance.

If you can get a hand on it for a reasonable price: go for it - you'll be not sorry, unless you can afford a Panoptic or a Nagler :-) this is a very good alternative.

Overall heartly recommended for people on budget.
