Takahashi Orthoscopic 4mm
I agree with every word of the previous review. In my 4" APO
the image is sharp, contrasty and has very good light through-
put. The texture and detail of Saturn from my light-polluted
backyard was breathtaking.

The Hi-Ortho design is very comfortable, but if you must wear
glasses at the eyepiece you won't see the entire FOV. This is
now my favorite planetary eyepiece.

Takahashi Orthoscopic 4mm
The best 4mm eyepiece I've used, period.

For critical planetary viewing this eyepiece gives excellent results, yielding high contrast, sharp images with above average light through-put. To combat the problem of eye-relief, usually such an issue with short focal length orthos, Takahashi add an extra element to this and the 2.8mm piece, which explains the Hi-ortho tag. Basically it acts like a barlow and makes this eyepiece comfortable to use for observers who don't need glasses. Performance seems otherwise unaffected and I appreciated the comfort greatly.

Clearly superior to the Radian at this focal length, with the Pentax orthos unavailable this seems the best premium option, unless a wider field or greater eye relief are essential. With a nod to the almost-as-good U Optics orthos I've deducted a point for value, but I won't be parting with mine in a hurry.
