| Viewing Info: | Visible to the eye as a fuzzy star (on dark nights of good transparency), M22 is easily identified in a small finderscope as a hazy "disk" above the handle of the inverted "teapot" about halfway between Omega and Mu Sagittarii. A good 100mm should resolve some stars in its outer shell, but it requires at least a 150mm to get a complete sense of stellar profusion. While viewing, look closely for any irregularity in the shape of the cluster. Best views are seen using magnifications between 70 - 120x. Larger apertured scopes may meed to go to 180x to fully resolve the core of this magnificent swarm of 11+ magnitude stars. |
